Our Go-To Stores for Essentials in Barcelona

Maria, March 16, 2025June 2, 2025

One of the best things about living in Barcelona is the variety of stores available for everyday essentials. From budget-friendly supermarkets to specialty shops for Asian ingredients and home decor, we’ve built a solid list of go-to places. Whether you’re a newcomer or just looking for better shopping spots, here’s where we get our must-haves!

If you’re more of a visual learner, check out my YouTube video to see our favorite stores for essentials here in Barcelona.

Groceries & Fresh Produce

Mercadona – The Reliable One

If we had to pick just one supermarket, Mercadona would be it. It’s everywhere, budget-friendly, and has a solid selection of groceries, household items, and even ready-made meals. We normally do our grocery shopping at Mercadona twice a month, and we end up spending €130-€150 per trip.

✔ Best for: Affordable groceries and prepared meals
✔ Our faves: Meat and fish selection, everyday essentials

Sorli – Less Crowded Alternative

Because of proximity, this is our go-to grocery especially for buying bread and veggies that we need the same day. It’s smaller, slightly more expensive, but way more peaceful and easy to navigate.

✔ Best for: Quick grocery runs without the chaos
✔ Our faves: Veggies, fresh orange juice, fresh bread and croissant

Servifruit – The Fresh Produce Spot

If you care about quality fruits and vegetables, skip the supermarket and head to Servifruit. They have fresher, better-tasting produce, and their seasonal fruit selection is amazing.

✔ Best for: Fruits, veggies, and nuts
✔ Our faves: Melon, cherries, peaches, and berries

Condis – The Convenient One

Condis is the go-to for last-minute essentials and for when we need something on a Sunday when everything else is closed. There’s always one nearby, and while the selection isn’t massive, it’s perfect for quick shopping trips.

✔ Best for: Basic groceries and last-minute runs
✔ Our faves: Chips, drinks, and frozen pizza

Asian Groceries

Dong Fang Asian Store – Our Go-To for Asian Ingredients

Being Asian, we crave our comfort food, and Dong Fang is a lifesaver. It’s well-stocked with all the essentials—rice, noodles, sauces, frozen dumplings, snacks, and even fresh produce like bok choy and tofu.

✔ Best for: Asian sauces, spices, frozen dumplings, and fresh produce
✔ Our faves: Kewpie mayo, Kikkoman sauces, instant ramen, and frozen gyoza

Beauty & Personal Care

Druni – Best for Perfumes & Skincare

For beauty and skincare, Druni is our go-to. They have great discounts on perfumes and a solid selection of skincare and drugstore makeup brands.

✔ Best for: Perfumes, skincare, and beauty essentials
✔ Our faves: Affordable perfumes and frequent sales on toiletry essentials

Home & Lifestyle

Muji – Minimalist & Functional

Whenever we need organizers, stationery, or simple home essentials, Muji is the spot. It’s not the cheapest, but the quality and minimalist aesthetic make it worth it.

✔ Best for: Storage solutions, travel accessories, and home basics
✔ Our faves: Pens, notebooks, and socks

New Home – Budget-Friendly Home Decor & Kitchenware

If you’re looking for affordable home decor, New Home is a hidden gem. It’s like a mix between a home goods store and a discount shop, with great finds for kitchenware, small furniture, and decor items.

✔ Best for: Budget-friendly home decor and kitchenware
✔ Our faves: Bakeware, travel essentials, kitchenware

These are our go-to stores for everyday shopping in Barcelona. Whether it’s budget groceries from Mercadona, fresh produce from Servifruit, Asian essentials from Dong Fang, or home decor from New Home, we’ve found a balance of price, quality, and convenience.
