Is it Possible to Change Brand Names On Existing Listings?

With all the Amazon accounts I’ve handled and currently managing, here’s one of the most common mistakes that Sellers make–creating a product listing under a wrong brand name.

Why is this a mistake?

Because there’s no going back. Once you’ve created a listing using a UPC/GTIN/EAN barcode and under a specific brand, Amazon’s system automatically pairs the barcode to the brand. If you made a mistake and used a wrong brand or if you want to change the brand from ‘generic’ to your actual brand, it can’t be done because Amazon won’t allow it. You can try to delete the listing and create a new one using the same barcode but under a different brand, and you will receive error 8566 or 8572. You can also contact Seller Support to assist with the rebranding but I can guarantee that you will only receive a template response informing you that it’s not possible. Trust me, I’ve gone through the same process. But don’t let me stop you, give it a shot and you might get lucky.

What else can be done?

You can use relist the product under a new UPC/GTIN/EAN barcode. But doing so means you have to relabel your inventory with the new barcode. Also, using a new barcode would mean having a new ASIN. So if your existing ASIN already has a lot of reviews and good ranking, then changing the barcode is not a good idea. But if it’s a new product, then you can go ahead and change the barcode.

To summarize, before you list any product, make sure all the details are correct especially anything concerning the barcode.
