Is Amazon Vine Program worth it? Maria, October 26, 2024June 2, 2025 What is the Amazon Vine Program? The Vine Program allows Amazon sellers to provide free products to pre-vetted reviewers, called “Vine Voices.” These reviewers are chosen based on their reputation for providing helpful, thorough feedback. In return, sellers receive honest reviews that can increase credibility and visibility for their products. Benefits of the Amazon Vine Program Increases Review Count: Products with more reviews tend to rank higher in search results and attract more buyers. Vine reviews can jumpstart a new listing or revive a product that has struggled to gain traction. Enhanced Credibility: Vine reviewers are trusted within the Amazon community, so their reviews may carry more weight and foster trust in your product. Improves Sales and Conversion Rates: More reviews can increase the likelihood of conversions, especially if the Vine reviews are positive. Many buyers look for feedback on quality, durability, and performance—insights Vine reviewers often provide in detail. Boosts Visibility: Higher ratings and reviews can enhance your product’s Amazon search ranking, leading to more organic traffic and greater exposure in a competitive marketplace. Drawbacks of the Amazon Vine Program Cost: Amazon charges a fee for each product enrolled in the Vine Program, which can vary based on categories and can be significant for smaller sellers. Sellers will also have to pay referral fees and FBA fees on all units claimed from the program. Additionally, since Vine requires providing free units, there’s an additional cost in inventory and you will need to set aside a portion of your inventory specifically for the program. No Guarantee of Positive Reviews: Vine reviewers are known for their honest and detailed reviews, so if there are any flaws in your product, they’ll likely mention them. This feedback can be constructive but could result in lower ratings if your product isn’t fully optimized. Limited Product Categories: Not all product categories are eligible for Vine, and only items with limited reviews or new listings generally qualify, so it may not be an option for all sellers. No Guarantee of Getting any Reviews: Vine reviewers don’t always create a product review even after receiving a free product. Based on experience, the batting rate is 80%. If you enrolled 10 units on the program, you can expect to receive 8 reviews, more or less. But recently, reviews generated from the program are getting less and less. Worse, even if you got only 1 review, you will be automatically charged with the program fee which varies depending on the number of units you enrolled. Is the Amazon Vine Program Worth It? If you’re launching a new product and looking to increase review count, the Amazon Vine Program is necessary. Other sellers try to get their family or friends to buy their product and then leave a 5-star review. If you don’t already know, this is against Amazon’s terms of service and can get your account at risk of deactivation. Frankly speaking, if there are other ways to generate reviews for new products, I would steer clear of the Vine Program because the quality of the reviews and the actual number of reviews that you get are not guaranteed. Also, when you enroll a product into the program, it takes weeks, almost always, before vine reviewers claim a unit and then you have to wait for another week or 2 for them to create a review, IF they choose to do so. Considering the high costs associated with this program, I personally don’t find it to be worthwhile anymore. However, since there aren’t alternative options available (yet), we as sellers are left without much choice. Got questions? Drop a comment or send me an email. Learnings
